THE LAST JOURNEY OF LIFE – LATA MANGESHKAR

Amitabh Bachchan writes, “She resounds now within the heavens.”

Lata Mangeshkar, a Mumbai resident, the last journey of life was laid to repose at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Sunday evening. She received full state honors. Along with Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, and other dignitaries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid respects.

In the presence of her family, Lata Mageshkar was laid to repose on Sunday at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. Ranbir Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan were some of the many who paid tribute to the veteran singer. At the age of 92, she died in Breach Candy hospital from multi-organ failure.

Lata was the daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar (Shevanti Mangeshkar) and a musical family. Her father was a well-known Marathi singer and theatre performer. Her father first taught her and she later performed as a child artist in many of his plays.

She has lent her voice to over 30,000 songs during her long career. She sang popular songs in Hindi, Bengali and Marathi as well as other regional languages.

Shah Rukh Khan performed a dua when he attended Lata’s funeral. He blew air (duaka dam), which is a pious custom that many Muslims practice. This is the final goodbye.

Le ja meri meri duayein pare jaane wale Legendary singer LataMangeshkar sang this song for the Dilip Kumar-Nargis film ‘Deedar’. This song captures the feeling of separation when a loved one passes away. Shah Rukh, actor, must have felt the exact same emotion when he watched his Lata Didi leave for her final journey.

On the evening of February 6, there was a crowd of ordinary people and dignitaries at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.

Everyone bowed in respect, from Prime Minister Narendra Modi all the way to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thickckeray. They were giving their last goodbyes and having the last darshan of Lata Didi, everyone’s beloved.

As Bollywood’s Shah Rukh approached for his last salaam, he raised both his hands in dua. He lifted his mask for a moment and prayed for Lata Didi to rest in peace. To show his love and respect, he touched her feet and folded both of his hands.

Some people questioned whether SRK was actually spitting when he was actually blowing out air from his mouth. This created a lot of controversy. What was it that Shah Rukh Khan did in all the chaos? This is the final goodbye.

According to Islamic tradition, when someone makes a dua, they raise their hands to the chest to ask Allah for anything. This could be for anyone’s well-being or for a job. These images have been seen in movies. SRK did the exact same thing before Lata Mangeshkar died. He prayed for her soul’s rest in peace, just like millions of her fans.

SRK was praying with his hands raised. He had a black mask covering his face. After praying for 12 seconds, he removed the mask and bent down to blow air on Lata Didi’s mortal remains.

Some claimed that SRK spat while actually blowing air. Arun Yadav, Haryana BJP IT cell chief, raised the question while sharing a Twitter video.

This way of making dua is very common from a religious perspective. We have seen parents blowing air on their children at mosques and dargahs by making a dua in front of a Maulana and Mufti. Adults can do this as well. Anyone can make a dua. Tantrik rituals include the practice of blowing air.

Social media backlash against the leader of BJP led to people pointing out that blowing air after a dua is supposed to ward away evil spirits. They also accused him of provoking a controversy from a solemn moment.

Lata Mangeshkar, who was suffering from post-Covid complications, died Sunday. On Saturday, she suffered multiple organ failure. After a Covid-19 diagnosis and pneumonia, she was admitted to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai. Although her condition was improving, it got worse this weekend.

Lata Mangeshkar, her sister, was laid to repose with full state honors. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, her brother, and Usha Mangeshkar, her sisters Asha Bhosle (and Usha Mangeshkar) were present at the funeral.
